The Newnex FireNEX™-CAT5-S800 is an IEEE1394b compliant repeater for long distance connections utilizing a Cat5/5e/6 cable at a data rate of 800 Mbps up to 100 meters in length. The wide-spread use of Cat5 cables allows for a reliable, cost-effective medium for long distance IEEE1394b applications.
The FireNEX™-CAT5-S800 requires no external power source, powered solely by IEEE1394 bus power. This allows for remote controlling in hazardous environments. However, a DC jack is included if bus power is unwanted or unneccessary. Industrial locking screws for each IEEE1394b port insures a strong, secure connection.
End of life notice: this product will be obsolete by 1/1/2021, please expect for longer lead time. Inquire for further information.

Q: What is the length that the FireNEX™-CAT5-S800 can support?
A: The FireNEX™-CAT5-S800 will support up to the maximum length of 100 meters with CAT5 cables.
Q: What is the maximum speed of the FireNEX™-CAT5-S800?
A: The FireNEX™-CAT5-S800 can support up to the maximum speed of 800Mbps.
Q: Can the FireNEX™-CAT5-S800 itself be a FireWire repeater?
A: Yes, the FireNEX™-CAT5-S800 is needed for the IEEE1394 over CAT5 cable extension. Both FireNEX™-CAT5-S800 units can act as either the transceiver or the receiver. If you need to RMA one of the repeaters, please return both devices that has the same S/N.
Q: Which FireNEX™-CAT5-S800 connects to the host system and which FireNEX™-CAT5-S800 connects to the device?
A: The host system and the devices can be connected to either FireNEX™-CAT5-S800 units.
Q: When is a power adapter needed?
A: The maximum length of the CAT5 cable for this bus-power set-up depends on the power consumption of the device. For example, to sufficiently power the other repeater and a device like an industry camera that consumes 2.9W of power the length of the CAT5 shall be no longer than 70 meters. When using a longer cable or a device with higher power consumption, a 12V DC power adapter may be needed.
Q: Where can the RoHS Certificate for FireNEX™-CAT5-S800 be found?
A: FireNEX™-CAT5-S800 Rohs Certifcation can be found in Newnex's FireNEX™ Repeaters Certifcate.
